This course hopes to help explain many of the obscurities around revolving around the fall of Roman Britain and the beginnging of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms which led to the modern day English people. We hope to show you new ways of looking at ancient cultures, especially those peoples we would assume to be basic 'barbarians' using archaeological/literary/genetic/anthropological techniques - disciplines everyone may have some interest in based on a STEM or humanities background
H824: The Empire We Lost: The Carthaginians in Rainstorm Summer 2021 (Aug. 14 - 15, 2021)
This course hopes to shed some light on the history and culture of one of the most little-known cltures of the Punic people living in northwestern Africa during antiquity - a semetic group based out of modern Tunisia - a trading empire and the greatest adversary to the Roman empire.
H646: The Steppe Nomads: Scythians in Rainstorm Spring 2021 (May. 15 - 16, 2021)
The aim of this course is for you to learn about the steppe lands stretching from modern-day Hungary to Mongolia, and how they created one of the most fearsome and interesting warrior cultures in all of history - the Scythians, with their nomadic lifestyle. The same lands also birthed the Alans, Huns, and Mongols, who all had enormous impacts on Eurasian History.
